In announcement from the band’s blog and an email we received today. The Long Blonde’s have decided to “call it a day.” Guitarist Dorian Cox writes a very endearing last message to his fans and supporters, citing the uncertainties of his recovery from the stroke he suffered in June.

You might recall a couple of months ago someone on this blog engaged in the distasteful practice of lording it over the rest of you just how terrific Sonic Youth’s 4th of July show [...]

Black Lips perform at Heaven in London. As to be expected… Black Lips bring the rock (refer to the band in the YouTube clip after the jump) and the Brits bring the good ol’ rock’n roll shenanigans (refer to the crowd in the YouTube clip after the jump).
And if you still haven’t had your fill, I highly recommend checking out the antics first-hand. After finishing up their European dates, the band will hop the pond for a U.S. leg. Dates and Venues are available on the band’s MySpace.
The busiest man in rock n’ roll has posted some new material on his blog. Titled “Hitler Was a Meglamanic,” it begs the question… Could this be a revealing work of self-reflection? Or perhaps a tale of historical atrocity? You be the judge, either way I’m guessing it’ll sound fantastic served up with a shredding Flying V and a knuckle-sammich. With any luck, the song will appear on Jay’s forthcoming Matador full-length, due early next year.
In an effort to aid those arrested during the Republican National Convention, Ted Leo & The Pharmacists have released a digital E.P. via the band’s label. Four songs for only four bucks, with all of the proceeds going to Democracy Now! and Minneapolis Food Not Bombs.
How much do you love Pandora? Well, apparently our love is not paying the important people enough cash. From Popular Mechanics:
PM’s senior tech editor finds out why the creator of Pandora might have to shut down if it wants to make a point to labels whose best interests are playing out in Washington…
This something worth paying attention to. Read more at PM’s site.
Stephen John Kalinich, the first artist to be signed to Brother Records, the Beach Boys’ record label, is going to release his 1969’s A World Of Peace Must Come through Light In The Attic Records. A World Of Peace… is considered to be “an album of music and psych-poetry” (per Light In The Attic). Kalinich, a reported close friend of Brian Wilson who co-produced A World Of Peace…, was an impregnable advocate for peace in the 60’s. The website has a link for a free mp3 but it seems to be a broken link… however, if you dig around enough, you can find anything:

Great news, Sonic Youth is going back into the studio, thanks to Matador Records. From the Matablog:
After rampant speculation, Matador Records can confirm the label will be releasing a new studio album from Sonic Youth sometime in 2009. Having fulfilled their contractual obligations to the Universal Music Group, Sonic Youth recently reached an agreement with Matador to release the band’s 16th album of new material in all worldwide territories, save for Japan. (via Matablog)
Our apologies go out to Japan. Read more about the news here and here.
