This last week we were privileged to be in attendance for a back-to-back southern Califronia Jay Reatard onslaught, kicking off at the Echoplex in Los Angeles, and then witnessing a kick-you-in-the-teeth-amazing performance at The Ken Club in San Diego. Free pool, cheap drinks, and a trails of tears-like winding bathroom line, the whole sh’bang. Started the night with a sneak-peek sound check and closed it out with Jay cannon-balling into the crowd. The band stampeded through a 16-song set with no filler, stopping only with Jay kicking an encroaching photographer off the stage. A definite highlight of the show was seeing Stephen(bass) booting a drunken stage-trespasser off the stage mid-song w/o missing a chord. The show was action-packed, I have the bruises to prove it. The busiest man in rock n’ roll has posted some new material on his blog. Titled “Hitler Was a Meglamanic,” it begs the question… Could this be a revealing work of self-reflection? Or perhaps a tale of historical atrocity? You be the judge, either way I’m guessing it’ll sound fantastic served up with a shredding Flying V and a knuckle-sammich. With any luck, the song will appear on Jay’s forthcoming Matador full-length, due early next year.

"I was at the Echoplex show and I'm jealous that you guys got to go to the SD show. It seems like Jay and company thrive at smaller venues. I've never witnessed such a debacle as the Doll Hut show in Anaheim. 3 songs in and the s went down. Awesome and disappointing at the same time. Hopefully they will keep touring before the next album comes out."
